PAII News & Announcements:
Tori Spelling...Innkeeper?, No InnFo Next Week, & More!

Tori Spelling...Innkeeper?
A pregnant Tori Spelling braves the wonderful world of B&B innkeeping with her new husband Dean McDermott. Can't believe it? Well PAII's own Karen Hudgeons was witness to the couple's earnest effort at a B&B convention in California earlier this year where the show was taping Tori and Dean's gathering of valuable information, including info about PAII membership! Oxygen's new show, Tori & Dean: Inn Love, follows Tori and Dean as they "make beds, breakfasts, babies, and beyond." If you still need to see it for yourself, the show premieres tonight, Tuesday, March 20th, at 10:30 p.m./9:30 p.m. Central on Oxygen. Read more about the show at http://www.oxygen.com/innlove.

No InnFo Next Week
We'll be seeing over 800 PAII members at the PAII Convention in Myrtle Beach next week. We've been busy preparing for months and are very much looking forward to a great convention. The PAII office in New Jersey will still be open but it will be minimally staffed from Monday, March 26th, to Friday, March 30th. We'll also be giving INNfo a break that week, but look for it again on Tuesday, April 3rd. Safe traveling everyone!

FREE Copy of 2006 Industry Study
These are the last four days to complete your questionnaire for the 2006 PAII Industry Study. We're shooting for 500 respondents—and need just 40 more! Remember, you get the $200 final report FREE for completing the survey! Thanks to the 460 innkeepers who have already given us their data! Click here to participate.

PAII Convention Registration
On-site registrations are welcomed at the 2007 PAII Convention, March 26th-March 29th, 2007, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Registration hours for the remaining days are as follows:

Monday, March 26th, 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 27th, 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Last Call for Cookbooks & Another Great PAII Member Discount Program!

Last Call For Cookbooks!
We are planning our display space for our new "Cookbook Corner" at the convention and need to know in advance if anyone attending the convention is planning to sell their cookbook at the PAII bookstore. If so, please reply immediately to karen@paii.org. We will not have ample display space to accept additional inventory on site.

Another Great PAII Member Discount Program!
PAII is excited to announce that we are renewing our relationship with National Processing Company (NPC) as a preferred provider of credit card processing for PAII members. NPC is one of the oldest, most respected and widely recognized brands in the payment industry. NPC provides services to more than 275,000 merchants and processes over $25 billion in annual volume making it the 6th largest processor in the U.S.

NPC has recently undergone management changes through an acquisition with Retriever Payment Systems. NPC's new management team, along with its customer support team, is very experienced in the lodging industry and very familiar with PAII and its members.

To show that NPC is very eager to grow the PAII relationship, NPC is now offering a new “Cost Plus” pricing structure for Visa/MasterCard transactions. This style of pricing is typically only offered to their large volume merchants. Based on the “Cost Plus” pricing structure, NPC expects to save PAII Members 30%-40% over their existing processing program.

You can learn more about this tremendous savings opportunity by contacting an NPC representative at 877.652.4348. Please identify yourself as a PAII member, or fax a copy of your most recent processing statement to 877.277.1975, and a NPC representative will contact you with a FREE pricing analysis.

NPC will also be attending the 2007 National Convention in Myrtle Beach, SC. Stop by their trade show booth (#218) to see what they have to offer!

PAII Forum Digest:
Construction & Development Costs for a New Inn,
Ironing Press, &
More!
If you have not had time to log on to the Forum located in the Members Only section of www.paii.org,
here are some of the interesting topics that have been discussed this past week.

Construction & Development Costs for a New Inn?
I am a new member to PAII and am working through the business plan and feasibility of constructing a new inn. I am looking for help with projected cost, operating expenses, etc. to plug into my plan. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ironing Press
Does anyone out there use an ironing press for sheets? I saw the Elnapress at the PAII convention last year and almost bought it. Do those of you that did buy it like it? Does anyone use another brand? There are some out there much cheaper, I'm wondering if they might be just as good as the Elnapress.

B&B TV Series: Tori Spelling
This is my first post, I have been an inspiring innkeeper for almost 2 years, and have read this forum and learned a lot about innkeeping. I attended PAII in Arizona last year and am still hoping to open an inn soon. Then, tonight, my wife just informed me that while reading STAR Magazine this evening she learned that Tori Spelling will soon be in the inn business (not PAII members...I looked). Per STAR Magazine (March 19th Ed.), Tori Spelling and her husband are opening a B&B south of LA this month. The trials and tribulations of running an inn will be the focus of a "reality" television series on Oxygen Network starting March 20th. It will be called "Tori & Dean: INN Love". They are quoted: "We're going to live here....We are going to run it. We are the innkeepers!" Fawlty Towers, look out!

Wages for Assistant Innkeeper in Canada
We have recently purchased and taken over operations of an inn in British Columbia. Our assistant was being paid barely $6.50 an hour. While that may be more than we expect to pay ourselves this year, it seems criminally low. Any observations from other Canadian innkeepers would be most welcome.

Cordless Two-Line Phone
We are in the market for a replacement two-line cordless phone with good range since we have a couple of buildings/floors etc. Ours has been dropped one too many times. Anyone have a good one they can recommend?

PAII Food Feature:
Alaska Gold Rush Bed & Breakfast Inn's Gold Rush Baked Eggs & Cheese
Let us feature a recipe from your inn!
Please send your submission (and a photo of the dish if available) to L1simpson@msn.com.

Ken and Mary Littlefair from the Alaska Gold Rush Bed & Breakfast Inn (www.alaskagoldrush.com) in Palmer, Alaska, offer this delicious, simple recipe for a wonderful egg & cheese breakfast.

Ingredients
7 Eggs
1 Cup milk
1 3/4 Teaspoons sugar
1 Pound cheese (combination of any type), grated
5 Ounces cream cheese, room temperature and cubed
1 16-Ounce container small curd cottage cheese
5 Tablespoons butter, room temperature and cubed
1/2 Cup flour
1 Teaspoon baking powder

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9x13 glass baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Beat eggs, milk, and sugar until combined. Add all of the cheeses and butter and mix well. Add flour and baking powder and mix well. Pour into baking dish and bake for 45 minutes or until knife inserted into middle comes out clean.

May be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated overnight, but baking time will increase to about an hour. Try adding ham, bacon, mushrooms, green peppers, and/or squash for variety. (back to top)

PAII Pointer:
The Pain of a Plethora of Panes

The joys of having many windows don't have to become a pain come cleaning time. Even if you have many tiny windows, as with French panes, just finding an appropriate-sized squeegee can save you time and effort. Instead of spraying and wiping each one dry with a cloth, spray them all at once and then squeegee.
