Membership Minutes:
Update Your Website! & Save $30 on Convention CDs until June 30th
Update Your Website!
Did you know that the PAII logo changed several years ago? Many of our
members are still utilizing the following logo that is no longer in existence:

PAII's logo has been redesigned and is reflected on our
website in all of our membership materials, on press releases, our letterhead
and on each publication. Our goal is to have the PAII logo become a recognizable
"brand" for the industry and consumers alike. So be sure you
are associating yourself with the logo that is recognized for professional
innkeeping. You can download the logo from our website at www.paii.org
in the members only area. Below are the correct innkeeper and vendor member
logos.

Save $30 on Convention CDs until June 30th
Find out for yourself why innkeepers are raving about the 2007 PAII Convention
workshops. Listen to the entire convention, including keynotes and workshops
on CDs; many sessions include Power Point slides.
"The general sessions alone were worth the price of
admission. The workshops gave us a wealth of information. There were two
of us there and we needed a third in order to cover everything."
~ Bonnie Masslofsky, Flaherty House Specialties, St. Michaels, MD
"Workshops were top quality. They weren't just people
who wanted to "present" at a conference. Your speakers were
people who had a message to share...that's what makes the difference."
~ Brian "Doc" Adams, Buffalo Tavern B and B, West Jefferson,
NC
Word travels fast among innkeepers, and the word is out about the high
quality of educational programming at the 2007 PAII Convention. Even if
you weren't there, you can listen to the general sessions and the workshops
to get the latest information on everything from industry trends to marketing
plans to online PR. If you attended the convention and didn't get to attend
all the sessions that interested you, the CDs are a great way to get the
content you missed.
The best deal is the CD set of the entire convention
of 60 sessions, regularly $199.95, now just $169.95 until June
30th. CDs of individual sessions are $15 each.
To order, go to the PAII website (www.paii.org)
and under the PAII Store tab click on Conference

Forum Digest:
Tax Rate Increase, & More!
If you have not had time to log on to the Forum
located in the Members
Only section of www.paii.org,
here are some of the interesting topics that have been discussed this
past week.
Tax Rate Increase
Our tax rate is increasing by 2% July 1st. I have several reservations
that will be affected by the increase. Would you charge the lower rate
because that is what was quoted or would you charge the higher rate?
How Do You Handle Reservations If You Need To Close?
My husband's health has deteriorated and we need to close our B&B.
We have guaranteed reservations beyond the time frame of our intended
closing date. What is our legal obligation to these folks if any? We also
have gift certificates and will contact the purchasers and refund the
monies somehow.
PAII Welcomes Our New CEO Jay Karen
2 weeks ago we sent an an INNfo to all members announcing that
the Board of Directors had hired a new CEO to lead PAII forward. We want
to welcome Jay Karen who you can read about in full on our home page http://www.paii.org/
where we have posted the press release that we sent out to the media.
We are thrilled to welcome Jay. His first day in New Jersey was Thursday
June 7, 2007. He brings enthusiasm, vision and an understanding of how
our industry works.
Catering Surcharge
We are having a lot of "extra" activates at our B&B. I am
not allowed by law to actually do the catering for the events, so I hire
an outside caterer. I have the event coordinator talk directly with the
caterer. I have been asked on more than one occasion by the caterer if
I "expect" any payment. I have not been doing that, but am now
considering it. The caterer is bringing in everything, including the tables,
chairs table ware, etc. We just rent out the grounds and rooms. We require
the event to take all four of our rooms for two days to book a large event,
plus a fee. Anyone have suggestions?
Chef Available In Portland, Oregon
One of my relatives recently graduated from New England Culinary Institute
and is looking for a position as a cook/chef in a bed and breakfast in
the Portland, Oregon area. What is the best route she should take in order
to contact those inns?
About B&B
This is a very interesting website and offers a great deal of information
to our industry. It is full of advertising but all of the sites are getting
that way. I am sure all of the PAII members will enjoy. http://bandb.about.com
Blogs
Steve and Katy Hiatt, who own Bottger Mansion of Old Town in Albuquerque,
NM presented innkeepers with blogs at the PAII convention in Myrtle Beach.
It was a great presentation and if you were there you learned a lot. We
have a blog and we are receiving more clicks on our website from our blog
than from most of our directories. The world is changing and we all need
to change with the tide. Thank you Steve and Kathy for your presentation.
www.bottger.com is their site.
Travel Articles
I was sent an email of a marketing co. called Travel Articles and they
presented me with putting up a free listing in their directory called
www.inkkeepermarketing.com. Has
anyone ever heard of them? I didn't respond, but was wondering if they
are legit.
