H-2B Visas Set To Expire & Hilton

H-2B Visas Set to Expire
Hoteliers Urged to Contact Congress, Ask for Continuation
(Washington, D.C., July 18, 2007) - Hoteliers are urged to contact
their Senators (http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm)
and Representatives (http://www.house.gov/house/MemStateSearch.shtml)
and urge them to cosponsor legislation that will maintain the relief
of the H-2B visa program that is scheduled to expire on September
30, 2007.
Senators should be asked to cosponsor S. 988 introduced by Sen.
Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) which would extend the H-2B relief provision
for 5 years.
Representatives should be asked to cosponsor H.R. 1843 introduced
by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) which would make the H-2B relief provision
permanent.
The current H-2B relief was approved at the urging of AH&LA
and others who rely on access to seasonal labor. The number of seasonal
workers available under the H-2B program is capped at 66,000 per
year. The relief measure effectively increases the number of H-2B
visa seasonal workers available by exempting workers from the cap
who have worked in the U.S. under the H-2B visa program in any one
of the three years prior to a year could work under the program
again. This relief provision will expire on September 30 unless
it is renewed by Congress. The provision which was enacted along
with the provision that divided the annual allotment of H-2B visas
into two portions, with 33,000 being distributed in the first half
of the fiscal year and the remaining distributed in the second half
of the fiscal year, is permanent.
To strengthen AH&LA's lobbying efforts, all hoteliers should immediately
contact their Senators and Representatives through www.ahla.com/grassroots
or call them directly and urge them to cosponsor S. 988 or H.R. 1843.

Looks like the bed & breakfast industry is doing something right;
a hotel chain is imitating the b&b/inn industry.
Leading mid-priced hotel brand, Hilton Garden Inn, extends seasonal
Bed N' Breakfast package to be available year round.
(PRWEB) July 19, 2007Hilton Garden Inn, the award-winning,
mid-priced hotel brand, is proud to announce that its Bed N' Breakfast
package is now available throughout the year.

each adult staying in the same roomand kids 12 & under
eat free. With nearly 270 million households staying at hotels annually
and one out of five trips including children*, the Bed N' Breakfast
package provides great value for traveling families and guests all
year long.
Until recently the Bed N' Breakfast (http://www.stayhgi.com/en/gi/promotions/bed_and_breakfast/index.jhtml?adId=bedandbreakfast,HGIoffer&cid=OM,GI,)
promotion was only available November through March, now the package

said Jim Cone, vice president of marketing for Hilton Garden Inn.
"Hilton Garden Inn continually aims to improve our guests'
hotel experience and this is one more way to provide them with the

Truly Spot-on Internet Marketing Article
Eric Goldreyer from BedandBreakfast.com
has an interesting article he shared with our members. If you can
spare 5 minutes he assures you it is worth the time to read. http://www.hotelmarketing.com/index.php/content/article/070712_internet_age_suits_hotel_industry_well/
Cookie Exchange/Open House Event
Wondering if anyone has participated in a holiday open house/cookie
exchange for potential guests? There are ten B&B's here that
would like to organize and advertise an event this fall that would
encompass guests visiting each B&B and receiving cookies and
the recipe as a marketing tool with a mini-tour on the Inns. I've
read about these before in magazines, but couldn't find a thread
about them in the archives. Wondering if anyone has participated,
if it proved fruitful, and any advice in the planning of such an
event. We'd appreciate any feedback.
UXL Studio Update
Today, I received a CD in the mail with the completed portion of
my web design as promised by the owner of UXL studios. Now I have
to have someone to finish the job. I hope the rest of your that
were involved in this ordeal have also received your data.
Elanapress Service Improvement
I just bought a new Elnapress. So far I love it. I know some of
you have been very frustrated with the lack of service from the
distributors. I had a long talk with my distributor about this and
she is determined to correct the problem. She has parts in stock
and will be happy to ship. She was at the PAII convention doing
the demonstrations.
Lov'n My Linen Service
I must say I'm so happy that I don't have to wash and iron sheets
anymore! After having invested in two ironing presses, one conked
out within two weeks and the other was just too dangerous and heavy,
I now have linens that are dropped off at my door on a weekly basis.
I first thought that big linen companies wouldn't deal with such
small operations like B&Bs and would just service large hotels.
Not the case at all. I have what I think is a great price on linens
from them, I am not stuffing sheets into the washer everyday, not
buying sheets anymore and I couldn't be happier. To me a sheet that
is well pressed goes a lot farther than one that is a high thread
count. I also get my napkins and pillowcases from them too.
BBOnline
Bbonline has rejoined PAII. They have also added a new wrinkle to
the directory. They have partnered with webervations and have availability
popping up on the home page. What a GREAT idea!
